Everything You Need to Know about Laser Hair Removal

If you’ve grown tired of frequent tussles with tweezers or wrestling with waxing strips, it’s time to consider a hassle-free approach to removing unwanted hair. In today’s blog post, we’re getting to the root of laser hair removal and sharing all the necessary information you need to know before committing to this skin-smoothing treatment. From session frequency to side effects to everything in between, this FAQ guide will help determine if this time-saving alternative is best suited for your skin and hair type!

  1. How does laser hair removal work?

During treatment, a light beam penetrates the skin’s deeper layers, targeting and heating the melanin in the hair follicle. This energy damages the follicle to prevent future hair growth while keeping the surrounding skin unharmed.

  1. What laser hair removal technology do you use in your clinics?

We use Sharplight Technology, specifically Dynamic Pulse Control (DPC) and DPC Flow in all three of our clinics.

  1. Is your laser hair removal technology safe for all skin types?

With three different handpieces and five pulse duration options to choose from, Sharplight’s flexible systems offer a variety of parameters that cater to clients of all skin types, various hair colors, and hair thicknesses and densities, ensuring we can treat all areas of the face and body.

  1. Are there side effects to laser hair removal?

As with any skincare treatment, you can experience side effects with laser hair removal. Redness, irritation, increased sensitivity, and even pigment changes can take place. While these are more temporary side effects, more intense (and less common) side effects can occur such as blistering and scarring. This is why choosing licensed professionals that take the utmost care of their technology and surroundings is key. Also keep in mind that laser hair removal should be completed during the cooler months, as sun exposure during treatments can increase the risk of burns!

  1. How many sessions are needed for laser hair removal?

Most clients need 6 to 8 laser treatments. After finishing the treatments, most clients do not see any hair on the treated area(s) for several months. Every laser client is different and factors such as hair and skin type play a significant role in determining how many sessions are needed!

  1. Is laser hair removal permanent?

Laser hair removal is not permanent, but the good news is that it can reduce between 70-90% of hair growth! Keep in mind that health conditions, hormones, medications, and the areas that you are lasering are all factors for potential regrowth. Although laser hair removal is not permanent for all (some clients do experience minimal regrowth over a series of sessions), it remains one of the best options for tackling and taming unwanted hairs.

  1. How often do I need to book an appointment?

We recommend booking laser appointments for the face every four weeks and every six weeks for the body. We advise spacing out treatments to target hair during their growth phases. You also want to give your skin time to heal!

  1. Does laser hair removal work on grey hairs?

Unfortunately, laser hair removal does not work for grey hairs. This treatment is more suited for those with dark, coarse hair.

  1. Are there areas you do not laser?

If we can make full contact with skin, we can laser any part(s) on the face and body. The most popular areas to treat for laser hair removal are arms, underarms, and legs. You also want to avoid any areas with tattoos and areas with more sensitive, delicate skin. We always recommend booking a complimentary consultation to discuss your laser hair removal needs in more detail with one of our aestheticians!

  1. How should I prepare for my appointment?

The treatment area(s) should be shaved prior to your laser appointment. If you want laser hair removal to be effective, you must avoid tweezing, waxing, or threading between appointments as the laser needs to detect hair follicles beneath the skin. Shaving also reduces any potential for burns!

And there we have it, folks! We hope we covered all your burning questions regarding laser hair removal and are ready to say farewell to continuous upkeep and hello to an unbothered, fuzz-free version of yourself. Remember: carefree confidence is just one zap away. Until next time!
